Timothy's Coffee social media PR nightmare is a recent case filled with room for discussion.
The Facebook page gives an inside look at how the situation was handled and the public's response.
Discuss some of the major mistakes made in this case. What do you think Timothy's could have done to rectify the problem and their subsequent actions? How could the company have been better prepared to manage the chaos of an uncontrollable social web?
Looking forward to reading your thoughts on this!
Hi Kim! Nice to "e-see" you again! Interesting case you chose! I actually read about this online when it happened.
ReplyDeleteI think a major mistake was made when the promised something they could not deliver. It is common knowledge now that things go viral instantaneously and I think they could have been more cautious in their messaging. Putting in a disclaimer of "we only have 200 to give away" or something like that would have saved them a lot of grief!
I also found this article really interesting as well. One thing I think Timothy's did wrong was that they underestimated the power of social media and how when something catches on, it can spread like wild fire. They should have known that their incredible deal would attract many customers. This might also come down to better strategizing and planning for potential outcomes or issues. The story makes it seem like they simply weren't prepared.
